SYRIAN ARAB AIRLINES TIMETABLE DD 11.1.1974

SYRIAN ARAB AIRLINES




In line with its policy of publishing at the beginning of each month a timetable and the story and information behind it as a way of wishing is readers a good month. 40 years ago Syrian Aran Airlines published its winter timetable valid from November 1 1974 to March 31 1975.

Syrian Arab Airlines was born as Syrian Airways after a tumultuous beginning  and a failed merger with  Misr airlines to form United Arab Airlines, the company started to emerge as a major regional operators in the Middle East. in the mid seventies. This timetable illustrates this role.

According to fight international World Aircraft directory dated march 20 1975, the company operated a fleet of :

-2 Boeing707-436 : G-APFL  (cn 17113) leased from British Airways (04/74 to 05/75) and G-APFN (cn 17703) leased from the same source  (03/74-02/75)

-4 Caravelles . All Caravelles operated were of the 10B3 series . YK-AFA "8 Mars" was delivered on Oct 22,1965, YK-AFB delivered om Jume 30, 1966 , YK-AFC delivered June 1971 ex Sterling Aw OY-STA and YK-AFD delivered Nov.1971  ex Sterling AW OY-STB

-1 DC6B (YK-AED) delivered in March 1964 was ex SAS "Torkil Viking" OY-KMA 


The Boeing operated the following routes . See table below







As we can clearly see from the map above , there was a full connection between eastward and westward , providing a through service from Karachi/Delhi to Paris/London/Rome/Munich and vice versa.


The Caravelles were used on the short to medium length services of the company 






and on its domestic network







Tne total length of the comany's network was at that date 45225 km and serving 32 destinations distributed as follow :
1-Europe :10 (Western Europe = 5, Eastern Europe =5)
2-North Africa : 5
3-Middle East : 10
4-India and Pakistan : 2
5-Domestic: 5
