SAS 1959 CARAVELLE OPERATIONS

SAS the Scandinavian airline consortium was the first to operate the Caravelle on its network and the 2nd airline after Air France to order it.

In its timetable dated  July 1.1959-October 31, 1959, the company operated a series of routes..

The Caravelle will faithfully serve SD.A.A for 15 years until 1974, when the fleet will be retired as the DC9s will gradually replace  the iconic twin jet.

Unlike Air France, SAS will put its Caravelle on its medium routes linking Copenhagen with the Middle East  reaching as far as Abadan in Iran through a variety of stops .
During the aforementioned period   SAS's caravelles plied the following routes

• Copenhagen-Munich-Vienna-Istanbul-Ankara-Cairo  1x week and v.v
• Copenhagen-Stuttgart-Geneva-Rome-Athens-Beirut-Tehran
• Copenhagen-Dusseldorf-Vienna-Istanbul-Ankara-Damascus-Abadan 1x week and v.v
• Copenhagen-Dusseldorf-Budapest-Athens-Cairo1 x week  and v.v
• Copenhagen-Dusseldorf-Vienna-Istanbul-Ankara 1x week and v.v
• Copenhagen-Prague-Budapest-Istanbul-Beirut-Damascus
• Copenhagen-Munich-Vienna-Istanbul-Ankara-Beirut-Abadan 1x week and v.v
• Copenhagen-Dusseldorf-Vienna-Athens-Baghdad-Tehran
• Copenhagen-Dusseldorf-Geneva-Athens-Beirut-Damascus
• Copenhagen-Milan-Rome
• Copenhagen-Stockholm
• Copenhagen-Helsinki

 Some return flights showed a different routing

• Tehran-Baghdad-Beirut-Athens-Vienna-Dusseldorf-Copenhagen
• Tehran-Baghdad-Beirut-Athens-Rome-Geneva-Stuttgart-Copenhagen
• Tehran-Baghdad-Beirut-Athens-Rome-Geneva-Dusseldorf-Copenhagen
• Cairo-Damascus-Athens-Budapest-Prague-Copenhagen
