NORTHEAST Airlines started as Boston-Maine Airways and adopted the present name in November 1940. . The Airline was based in Boston and served the North WEastern communities up to Moncton with a fleet of DC3, CV240 . Gradulally , the airline expanded its network to include Washington and Florida.
The Airline ordered 10 Vickers Viscount series 700 (see table below) to face the competition from Eastern and National Airlines . Eight of them came from the cancelled order of Capital Airlines and 2 were pure NE orders (cn391/392)
However, the financial strain on the company led to the return of the Vickers Viscount to Vickers in September 1963. Despite its acquisition from the Storrer Broadcasting, the financial woes and difficulties will haunt the company until its merger with Delta Airlines in August 1972 1972
