LOUISVILLE is the largest city in the commonwealth of Kentucky and was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark The city took its name after Louis XVI of France . Today, the city is known as the home of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), the University of Louisville and its Cardinals, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and three of Fortune 500 companies: Humana, Kindred Healthcare, and Yum! Brands. The population of the city stands at 620.118 (consolidated 770.557) according to the 2018 census. The metro area is the 45th in the USA ar 1,297,310 inhabitants
LOUISVILLE international airport was named in January 2019 after one of its most famous son the boxer Muhammad Ali. Previously it was named for Dr. Elisha David Standiford, a local businessman and politician, who was active in transportation issues and owned part of the land.
Standiford Field was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1941 on a parcel of land south of Louisville that was found not to have flooded during the Ohio River flood of 1937. The field remained under Army control until 1947, when it was turned over to the Louisville Air Board for commercial operations.Until around 1947 Bowman Field was Louisville's main airport Scheduled jet flights (Eastern 720s to Idlewild) began in January–February 1962.
Louisville airport covers 1,500 acres (610 ha) at an elevation of 501 feet (153 m). It has three concrete runways: 17R/35L is 11,887 by 150 feet (3,623 x 46 m); 17L/35R is 8,578 by 150 feet (2,615 x 46 m); 11/29 is 7,250 by 150 feet (2,210 x 46 m) .

The most travelled routes were (see below) for which there were virtually no competition except for Louisville-Dallas-Fort-Worth , Louisville-Orlando and Louisville-Saint Louis.
The only foreign destination with traffic > 10000 is Louisville-Cancun operated on a non-cheduled basis by UPS and carried 10231 passengers
Highest load factor was achieved by Southwest on the route Louisville-Baltimore and the worst one by Delta Airlines on Louisville-Nashville.
44.6% of freight + mail tonnage was import/export of goods and best freight foreign markets were Koln in Germany, London and East-Middlands in the United kingdom
Comparing point to point and market tables it becomes evidently clear that Nashville is a transit point chosen by both Delta air lines and Southwest to connect to other cities : Point to point :49,690 passengers , market 4,243 passengers.
Three new markets : Los Angeles, Kansas City and New Orleans emerged for which Southwest held a quasi monopoly.
