TRANS TEXAS AIRWAYS TIMETABLE DATED NOVEMBER 1, 1949

TRANS TEXAS AIRWAYS TIMETABLE DATED NOVEMBER 1, 1949

A TRIBUTE TO THE 70th ANNIVERSARY  OF THE PUBLICATION OF THIS TIMETABLE

Trans Texas Airways'  origin can be traced to Aviation Enterprises , a company specialized in aircraft sales and service. The company was incorporated in Houston on 14/11/1944 by R. Earl Mckaughan.
McKaughan applied to the C.A.B and in the the course of the Texas - Oklahoma route , the C.A.B awarded the newly founded company eoutes in Southern Texas. In may 12, 1947, the company changed its name to Trans Texas Airways and began its first schedule on October 11, 1947 with flights from  Houston to San Antonio, San Angelo and Dallas. The fleet consisted of 5 21-seat DC3 acquired from American Airlines and named  after birds (in Spanish) : La Hansa (the goose), La Paloma (the dove), La Colondrina (the swallow) , La Ciguena (the stork) and La Aquila (the eagle....note the wrong article for Aquila which is masculin in Spanish)

The route map has a length of 3081 km and the average sector's length is 128 km

The network map is a circle with no hub and spoke cities, we can notice though, that Eagle pass is an excellent mini hun city where you can join the HQ of the company in Houston either through a longer route through Fort Stockton or a shorter route through Uvalde, San Antonio , you can also join Brownsville and El Paso fom the same airport  the same can be said for Fort Stockton . How many of the airports shown above receive regular air service to day ....
