A few word about CAAC
CAAC was formed on November 2, 1949, shortly after the founding of the People's Republic of China, to manage all non-military aviation in the country, as well as provide general and commercial flight service (similar to Aeroflot in the Soviet Union). It was initially managed by the People's Liberation Army Air Force.
In 1980 the airline was transferred to the direct control of the State Council
Domestic destinations
CAAC operated a dense domestic network amounting to 110,000 km of unduplicated routes as we can see from the map below.
Analyzing the map. we can distincly notice some mini hubs : such as Wuhan, Guangzhou,Urumqi, Kumming and Shanghai and of course Peking. and when in 1988 , CAAC Airlines split into six separate airlines, each named after the geographic region of their main operating areas, it followed roughly the existence of the mini hubs.
