Malayan Airways was founded in 1946 with the help of Imperial Airways, Ocean Steamship Co from Liverpool and Strait steamship Co. from Singapore.
First domestic services started in on May 1, 1947 on the scheduled route Singapore-Kuala Limpur-Ipoh-Penang . In April 1948 , First International services were launched from Singapore to Saigon (via Kota Baharu), Bangkok (via Penang), Jakarta (called then Batavia), Medan (via Penang) and Palembang
Flights were originally operated with airspeed consuls and were joined later with by the ubiquitous DC3 (the first frame was delivered in November 1947)

The 1950 timetable shows 7 international destinations served by Malayan Airways (see map below)
and operated also to 8 domestic destinations (see map below)
The network of the company totaled 8420 km
