SABENA - CARAVELLE VI N OO-SRB
SABENA, a company, a model , a history is the new topic by Utopia Airport. I hope it will interest you.
Our first model is SABENA's Caravelle VI N OO-SRB by INFLIGHT500 on a 1/500 scale
This Caravelle was the second of 10 units that SABENA ordered to feed its short to medium range network as its Convair 440, DC3s were too "old", and too small to face the increasing demand of the swinging sixties.
The registration of the 10 unit batch of SABENA's caravelle started with OO-SRA and ended with OO-SRK, However OO-SRJ was never allocated..
The first Caravelle was delivered on 20/1/1961 and entered into service on February 19, 1961 on Brussels-Nice route and had a capacity of 82 passengers : 12F and 80Y
The summer 1961 timetable shows the following routes and frequencies

The deliveries of the Boeing 727-100 in 1967 will allow the company to re-allocate the Caravelle to other routes.
The timetable dated December 1,1972 shows the cities served by the Caravelle : Vienna (2xw), Madrid (3xw),Lisbon (2xw), Barcelona (2xw), Palma (1xw), Alicante (1xw), Malaga(2xw), Paris (8xw), Nice (1xw), London (1xw), Manchester (4xw),Zurich (11xw), Geneva (7xw), Frankfurt (15xw), Hamburg (6xw), Stuttgart (6xw), Munich (6xw), Copenhagen (11xw), Stockholm (7xw), Warsaw(1xw), Budapest (1xw),
After its withdrawal from SN service starting in the early seventies with the delivery of the B737-200, the aircraft went to the charter arm of SABENA: SOBELAIR and OO-SRB was unfortunately broken up in 1980. The aircraft was briefly leased to Air Afrique between January and March 1975
