2000


The company suspends THR. The Airbus A310 flies all long-range flights.





2001


The company was registered as a public shareholding company with an initial capital of JD 40.000.000. Berlin looses to Munich as new European addition to the company’s network.







2002

The summer timetable shows resumption of flights to Moscow (in May 2002) and direct flights to Detroit through Shannon and Chicago. Meanwhile, the company receives 2 new A340-211 and are put in services on the routes to JFK linking Amman directly to the big apple with no intermediate stops, and to Bangkok. The airline carries 1.339.779 passengers








2003

During the year, the fleet of the company is enriched by 2 other new Airbus 340-211 delivered in May and July respectively and allows Royal Jordanian to link directly Amman with the windy city. CCU is added to the network and Shannon is suspended as the technical stop is no longer needed with the long-range airbuses. The company achieves a profit of JOD 9.700.000 despite the Iraqi war. The airline carries 1.404.588 passengers.








2004

The summer timetable sees the introduction of Barcelona a new European destination, and 3 regional destinations will join the network SSH, ALP and AAC, the winter 2004/05 (Feb 2005) will see the suspension of CMN due to poor economic performance, this was preceded by the suspension of flights to KUL, CGK , ANK and BRU. The strategic plan launched during the year calls for a complete renewal of the short and medium haul fleet. The airline carries 1.736.637 passengers. Profits soar to JOD 15.500.000.





2005

2 new Dash 8-400 are delivered to be operated under the RJ express brand. The 2005 summer timetable will see the resumption of flights to Baghdad, Royal Jordanian being among the first airlines to serve the Iraqi capital after the war. The company will lease a Fokker F28 (ZS-XGX) to operate the flights to the Iraqi capital .The winter 2005/06 will see the re-introduction of flights to Milan and the company achieves a record profit of JOD 20.516.000. In November 2005, the operations of Royal Wings is transferred to the parent Company but will retain its charter operations as an independent entity. The airline carries 1.821.329 passengers.

2006
The 4th destination in Iraq is added : Suleymaniyah and by the year end the company sees the delivery of its first EMB195. 
The airline carries 2.004.599 passengers during the year




2007

A new milestone is achieved for Royal Jordanian when it joins One World Alliance on April 1, 2007 and orders 2 Boeing 787 dream liners.  May 2007, flights to Montreal are (re) launched whereas BUD joins RJ network in July 2007.  Other destination gracing Royal Jordanian network map is ALY  but KHI is dropped (suffering from the competition of Qatar AW and Emirates on the routes to Pakistan). On November 18, an IPO is launched and in December 17 Royal Jordanian shares are listed on the Jordan Stock exchange. The airline carries 2.366.459 passengers. Worth noting is that soon after joining One World alliance, all Iraqi destinations were suspended.



2008
Expansion wise, Hong Kong is launched in January 2008 as an extension of the Bangkok route. Whereas, the Ukrainian capital Kiev joins the network with the summer timetable (2008) but on the other hand, AAC is dropped . The airline carries 2.701.000 passengers
The year will be fertile in airline deliveries:
-2 Airbus 321 delivered in April and May respectively


-2 Airbus 319 delivered in March and November

-1 EMB 175 delivered in June.



2009

2 additional A319 are added to the fleet in February and March 2009. 




Brussels is re-launched after a 6-year hiatus (June 2009) and Benghazi after an absence of 30 years (April 2009) BSR is added to the network together with Medina. BUD stops to be served by RJ as MALEV will step in and RJ will become a code share partner on the route. The airline carries 2.668.590 passengers in 2009.

ROYAL JORDANIAN AND THE US.MARKET

The table below shows the evolution of the Jordan/US market which grew on average by 8.4%. The traffic quickly rebounded after the fall following the 2001 events. The entry of DELTA Airlines in June 2008 gave an additional impetus to the market. The fall in traffic in 2009, is the direct result of the financial crisis that started in 2008
