FLY DUBAI - 10th ANNIVERSARY

FLY DUBAI

We celebrate in 2018, the 10th anniversary of the foundation of FLYDUBAI. The establishment of FLYDUBAI comes to no surprise as the aviation scene in the Middle East witnessed huge changes in the first decade of the 21st century . The rise in power of Qatar Airways , Emirates Airlines and later on of Etihad Airways posed a threat to European and Asian "legacy " carriers as they took a significant market share on their Europe/Asia, Europe/Oceania , Europe/India services, meanwhile residents of Pakistan, India for example , could easily fly to European and North American destinations not served by their flag carriers by making just a stop in DOH, AUH or DXB.
The low cost sector was not ignored also , as a plethora of low cost carriers saw the light of the day with more or less success : Jazeera Airways, Air Arabia, Bahrain Air, Rak Airways, Sama.
The company was set up by the government of Dubai as the city's first low cost carrier in March 2008 and On June1, 2009 it launched its first service to Beirut on a Boeing B737-800 NG of which the company has ordered 50 during the Farnborough show in June 2008. Other destinations followed : Amman, Damascus, Aleppo and Alexandria. The success was immediate and in July 2010 , FLYDUBAI had already carried its 1000000th passenger .The company is independently operated from Emirates (they share the same shareholder) and serves thin international routes that would be uneconomical for Emirates to fly.
The airline currently has one hub and operates out of Terminal 2 of Dubai However, to accommodate for the growing airline , flydubai began to operate flights out of DWC (Al-Maktoum International airport-Dubai World Central) from 25 October 2015. The airline began with 70 flights per week to Amman, Beirut, Chittagong, Doha, Kathmandu, Kuwait and Muscat .
