On March 31.2018, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the maiden flight of Austrian Airlines to London (via Zurich)  by a Vickers Viscount series700 leased from Fred Olsen pending the delivery of  the company's own aircraft
The history of Austrian Airlines go back to 1923 when it was called  OLAG (Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG) .Both Germany and Austria were left without  a national airline  company after WW2  and the need to create one rose after the allied powers authrozed Germany to have sovereignity over its aispace .
The contemporary history of the airline starts in 1957 after the merger of Air Austria and Austrian Airways .
One of the first timetable issued by the company reveals a very limited network  with flights operating from Vienna to London (daily)  Paris via Stuttgart (daily) , Zurich (daily) , Rome (3 weekly flights)  and Frankfurt (daily)
