Its first jet a convair 880 as delivered in 1961(B1008)

bought by Cathay Pacific in 1968 (VR-HGA) when CAT was declared bankrupt . Wet leased to Air Malta as N48059 from 1976 (Nov) to 1979.

Having a single jet does not leave much room for expansion , the timetable dated December 1, 1962, present no changes compared to the advanced timetable of 1961, all routes operated by the CV880 were named "THE MANDARIN JET ROUTE" .
The July1-Aug 31,1963 timetable presents the following major change : all flights originating in Bangkok continue to Seoul schedule : Bangkok-Hong Kong-Taipei-Okinawa-Tokyo (overnight stop) Seoul.
The August 3, 1966 timetable shows the following schedule. Notable changes are the introduction of direct services to Seoul and Manila
The April 17, 1967 schedule will show no change compared to the August 1966 timetable.
The January 10.1968 timetable will see the replacement of the CV880 with the Boeing 727-100 and the cancellation of flights to Seoul and Manila.
