VISTARA AIRLINES AN INDIAN NEWCOMER

VISTARA AIRLINES

"FLY THE NEW FEELING"

The origin of the airline can be traced to the mid-90s when Singapore Airlines and Tata sons ( of the famous Tata Airlines which was instrumental in developping air services in India and whose Air India was nationalised in 1953) established a joint venture where the capital was divided between SIA (60%) and the remain was held with with Tata and sons.
However due to regulatory and political reasons as well as the vociferous opposition of the fledging airlines : Jet Airways, Air Sahara . The project folded in 1997as FDI (Finance Direct Investment ) in Airlines was not accepted . The project was resurrected almost 20 years later in 2012 when the FDI was opened to airlines (maximum ownership 49%). A new joint venture ws formed with SIA holding the 19% and the remaing  in Tata's hands. This project gave the opportunity to the Tata family to go back to the first love (aviation).
